BrickTrace Privacy Policy

BrickTrace helps you identify a LEGO® piece and find which of your sets it belongs to. We built it to keep your data on your device. This policy explains what leaves your device, the third parties involved, and what we store. (LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO Group, which does not sponsor or endorse BrickTrace.)
Photos you scan
When you scan a piece, the photo is sent to Brickognize to identify the part. Brickognize is a third-party service that may retain submitted images to improve its identification model. As of July 2026, we are not aware of a published privacy policy from Brickognize describing its data retention or use practices. Only the photo you capture for a scan is sent — BrickTrace does not upload your photo library. Because the camera captures whatever is in frame, images may incidentally include people or other content in your surroundings; you control what appears in the photo. Recent scans are also kept locally on your device, as described in "What's stored on your device" below.
Adding sets by number
You can build your library by entering a set number — no Rebrickable account or sign-in required. BrickTrace uses its own Rebrickable API key to look up that set's public catalog details (name, image, and part list) from Rebrickable. Only the set number is sent; no personal account or credentials are involved.
Connecting a Rebrickable account (optional)
To import the full library of sets you own, you can optionally connect your Rebrickable account. Your Rebrickable username and password are sent once, directly to Rebrickable, to obtain an access token. Your password is never stored. The access token — along with a Rebrickable API key, if you provide one — is kept in your device's keychain and used only to read your set library.
Advertising
The free version of BrickTrace shows ads served by Google AdMob. To deliver ads, Google may collect device identifiers, IP address, and usage data as described in Google's privacy and advertising policies (available at policies.google.com/privacy and policies.google.com/technologies/ads). On iOS, any tracking that relies on your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) occurs only if you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt; if you decline, ads are non-personalized. You can also limit ad personalization in your device's privacy settings. Google is an independent controller of the data it collects and processes it under its own policies. BrickTrace Premium removes all ads.
Purchases
Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple's App Store (or Google Play) and managed through RevenueCat, which receives purchase and subscription details and a randomly generated, anonymous app-user identifier (which is not your name, email, or other personal information) to manage your entitlement. RevenueCat is an independent controller of the data it receives and processes it under its own privacy policy (available at revenuecat.com/privacy). BrickTrace never sees your payment-card details.

What's stored on your device
Your API key, access token, synced set library, and recent scans are stored only on your device. BrickTrace has no server of its own and no account system, and we do not run our own analytics or sell your data. Data does leave your device only as described above (Brickognize, Rebrickable, the ad and purchase providers). Each of those third parties acts as an independent controller of the data it receives and is responsible for handling it under its own privacy policy.
Children's privacy
BrickTrace is intended for a general audience and is designed to be set up and operated by an adult. Connecting a Rebrickable account, entering set numbers, and changing settings are adult-facing tasks, and the app is not marketed to, or designed for, children under 13. BrickTrace has no account system of its own and does not ask users for their age or collect personal information directly from users. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided personal information through BrickTrace, please contact us at support@bricktrace.app.
Your choices & removing your data
Disconnecting your Rebrickable account in Settings removes the stored token and synced sets from your device. Subscribing to Premium removes ads. Deleting the app removes all remaining local data. Requests about images submitted to Brickognize should be directed to Brickognize.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
